SOMI ARCHITECTS

combines the abilities of two creative and inspirational leaders to deliver awe-inspiring architecture, with the support of equally inspired and dedicated people.

Sophia and Alun are recognized for their excellence in design and their interest in being at the forefront of addressing people’s contemporary needs in buildings, large and small. They use technology at the vanguard of the industry, such as BIM and virtual real-time rendering, to accelerate the realization of their architectural vision for their clients.

Sophia is the founder and Principal Architect of SOMI-Architects. She is an ETEK/Cyprus registered architect, with a versatile skill-set and extensive experience of a large diversity of projects, in both typology and scale. It is of note that from the early stages of her career she has been deeply involved in some massive-scale projects, proceeding to be a key player for projects like Larnaka Waterfront, Lord Byron Towers Nicosia, Totaltowers Limassol, Zagreb Airport Croatia, Del Mar Limassol, Venus Rock Paphos and Blu Limassol.

Prior to establishing SOMI–Architects she worked with the highly regarded UDS Architects practice in Limassol, and before that with the major-player international firm Scott Brownrigg, in the Limassol office of this very large UK-based practice.

Sophia is a visionary architect, intimately involved in the creative process and closely involved with every stage of a project. She has a keen interest in materiality and a disciplined, detail orientated approach to design and construction. This paired with a holistic overview to investigate and explore artistic and technical boundaries, comes together to deliver outstanding and exquisite avant-garde architecture to deliver above and beyond her client’s dreams.

Alun is SOMI-Architects’ Design Director. He is a competition-winning, UK-registered chartered architect. Prior to SOMI-Architects he was Design Director at SLCE Architects in New York, the biggest residential architects in Manhattan, and before that Director at PPA Architects in Limassol and at Scott Brownrigg, one of the biggest UK firms based in London. He is first and foremost an architect-designer – specializing in large, complex, residential, mixed-use and tall building projects – but has also acted as a technical leader and project manager, for projects like the Central Park West subway in New York, and also as artistic coordinator for various public space installation pieces.

His career highlights have been winning the Larnaka Waterfront DBFO and Lord Byron Tower competitions, short-listing for three other major international competitions (London Art’otel, London Business School, Tribeca Cityscraper), completing the iHome project in Limassol and the T-Building project in New York, and being recognised in the group of ’25 Who Will Change Architecture and Design in 2010’ in Blueprint Maagazine’s annual review, alongside James Dyson, SANAA and David Adjaye.
